New Coronavirus cases numbers skyrocket; White House doubts official figures

Literally overnight, the number of new Coronavirus cases in China jumped from about 2,000 to nearly 15,000. You might have read in the last few days that the number of new cases was leveling off. Yeah, no.

But don’t you worry your pretty little head about this because according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the main reason for the spike in cases is because China is now using different methodologies to diagnose patients.

According to NBC News, The Hubei health commission did not spell out the details of the new diagnosis method used, but it said that clinically diagnosed cases of COVID-19 (the specific virus strain) are suspected cases with “pneumonia imaging features."

Citing health officials, Reuters reported these cases were diagnosed using computerized tomography (CT) scans, which can reveal lung infections.

This new diagnosis method will help patients get treatment ASAP and improve the success rate of their treatment – so that’s the good news, apparently.

Of course, this sort of story is perfect for spreading “viral” theories (please, pardon the pun), but it’s hard to deny there are some disturbing aspects it's hard to ignore.

According to a White House official, CNBC reports the White House doesn’t have “high confidence” in China’s public numbers on the Coronavirus. And given the fact the number of new cases increased 750 percent OVERNIGHT, can you blame them?

But isn’t it also a bit worrying that China “continues to rebuff American offers of assistance." Is it just hubris? Maybe, but there’s also another scary theory being floated that maybe the virus isn’t natural at all. Maybe it was a secret bioweapons test gone horribly wrong.

During an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning, correspondent Eunice Yoon said, "There are plenty of theories out there because Wuhan does have a P4 lab. There was a biochemical weapons expert who went from the Chinese military who went there - who is there now to look at some of the testing kits. Because she is there - maybe this was man-made and there’s a theory that this could have been part of a bioweapons program. But that’s just a theory.”

Hmm.

And if you’re wondering what it’s like to live through this, Yoon talks about the security gauntlet she has to go through, just to get home in Beijing.

Of course, we’re being told to keep all of this in perspective, because more people will die of the flu this season. In fact, the latest reports from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), say the flu has caused the deaths of 10,000-25,000 Americans, hospitalized 180,000, and sickened 19 million so far during just this season (October to February).

But be honest, when was the last time THIS happened in your office during flu season?
